FAQs

Start here if you are deciding whether a pain physician is the next step. Each condition page also has its own questions.

Common questions

Who is a pain physician, and how is that different from an orthopaedic surgeon?
A Consultant Pain Physician finds the source of pain and treats it with targeted injections, blocks, and infusions, rather than with surgery as the first step. Dr. Nitish Mandal's qualifications listed are MBBS, MD, FIPM, and TIPM (Nashville). Some people still need a surgeon after that assessment.
Do I need a referral to come to Koramangala or J.P. Nagar?
No. You can book either clinic directly. Prior appointment is preferred.
What should I bring to the first visit?
MRI, X-ray, or ultrasound reports if you have them, a list of tablets and injections already tried, and discharge papers if the pain started or stayed after surgery.
Will I be able to go home the same day after a procedure?
Clinic procedures are described that way. Ozone for sciatica is listed as going home in about 30 minutes. PRP preparation takes about 30 minutes. An infusion generally lasts about one hour. Suitability is confirmed in clinic.
Are the injections done awake?
Yes, for the procedures described on this site. Remaining awake means you can say at once if a shock-like feeling occurs, or whether the pain has changed after a diagnostic block.
How many sittings will I need?
That depends on the source. Ozone for a disc is often discussed as one visit, with change over 3 to 4 weeks. Some ketamine cases need more than one session. The first visit decides the plan. It is not fixed from a webpage.
Is cashless insurance available?
Not currently. The practice is working toward coverage for procedures. You may still submit bills and prescriptions for reimbursement where your policy allows.
How do I book?
Book on this website, or contact Koramangala on 7624997990 (all days, 10 AM to 2 PM) or J.P. Nagar on 9980804636 (Monday to Saturday, 4 PM to 6 PM). Email teamdrnitish@gmail.com. WhatsApp +91 80502 87888.

I have tried tablets and physiotherapy. What is different here?

Find the source of the pain, then treat that source with a clinic injection, block, or infusion. You are typically able to go home the same day.

Where are the clinics, and do I need an appointment?

Koramangala and J.P. Nagar. Prior appointment is preferred. You can book from this website.

Do I need a referral?

No. Book Koramangala or J.P. Nagar directly. Bring MRI or X-ray reports and a list of tablets you have tried.

Will I have a procedure the same day?

Not always. The first visit is conversation and examination. Treatment is chosen after the source is identified.

Which problems do people come in with?

Sciatica and slip disc, frozen shoulder, chest pain after a normal ECG, neck pain from desk work, knee pain, fibromyalgia, migraine, and heel pain on the first morning step.

Is this surgery?

No. Care is described as non-surgical and minimally invasive at Koramangala and J.P. Nagar.

My MRI shows a disc bulge. Do I need surgery?

Not automatically. A bulge on a scan and the pain you feel are not always the same thing. Ozone discolysis and transforaminal epidural injections are listed as non-surgical options after examination.

How soon can I go home after ozone?

The procedure is described as 15 to 20 minutes, with going home in about 30 minutes. Ozone may take 3 to 4 weeks to shrink the disc.

I cannot lift my arm and night pain is worse. What can you do?

Hydrodilatation and ultrasound-guided injections are listed when stretching has stalled. The visit is a clinic procedure, not an operation.

Can I use the arm the same day?

Many people go home the same day. How quickly the arm lifts again depends on how stuck the joint was.

Is this frozen shoulder or a rotator cuff problem?

Both are treated here. Frozen shoulder is a tight capsule. Rotator cuff pain is often in the tendons that lift the arm. Examination sorts those out.

If I cannot lift the arm, where should I start?

The frozen shoulder page. Hydrodilatation and ultrasound-guided injections are listed there.

I work on a laptop all day. Can that cause this?

Yes. Looking down and long sitting feed trapezius knots and cervical spondylosis. The visit sorts a muscle knot from a neck joint.

What if massage is not enough?

Trigger point injection, or RF / PRF and medial branch blocks for the small joints of the neck, after the source is confirmed.

Tablets are not enough for my headaches. What else is listed?

Nerve blocks and Botox protocols for migraine and tension headaches, after the pattern is mapped in clinic.

My brain scan was normal. Does that mean it is nothing?

No. A normal scan does not mean the headaches are minor. Bring the reports anyway.

The first step in the morning is the worst. Is that a heel spur?

A spur on X-ray is not always the reason. The fascia or a nerve can be the source. Start with the heel pain page.

What treatments are listed?

PRP injections and tibial nerve blocks.

The MRI shows something. How do you know that is the pain?

A diagnostic block places a small amount of numbing medicine at a suspected source. If the pain goes away, that structure is confirmed.

Is it better than an MRI?

It answers a different question. A scan shows structure. A block tests whether that structure is causing the pain you feel.

My ECG is normal but my chest still hurts.

That can be costochondritis: inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone. Pressing the tender spot typically reproduces the exact pain.

How is it treated if pills fail?

Ultrasound-guided injections, parasternal blocks, and intercostal nerve injections at Koramangala and J.P. Nagar.
